Audit and Inspection: ABM Abattoir, Cutting and Packing Scheme

For the first time medium-sized abattoirs and processors will be able to join an accredited certification scheme that allows them to slaughter or process farm-assured livestock in a cost-effective way.

The Association of Independent Meat Suppliers in conjunction with Assured British Meats have developed the Abattoir and Processor Standard - the first scheme of its kind that is UKAS-accredited, cheap and easy to install and operate and can run alongside existing HACCP management plans.

It will allow medium-sized and small plants to capitalise on serving an increasing number of sectors that require UKAS accreditation. As many local and regional food initiatives are based on this requirement, it will allow these plants to contract slaughter or process for these schemes.
