Certification and Assurance: Freedom Food Schemes

Freedom Food was created by the RSPCA and represents their farm assurance and food labelling scheme. It operates by implementing the RSPCA species specific welfare standards on farms, hauliers and abattoirs throughout the country. The standards have been devised by the society's experienced welfare specialists and veterinary experts from within the industry and are regularly updated to provide better ways to rear animals.

The standards are based on the concept of the five freedoms as defined by the Farm Animal Welfare Council (FAWC). Traceability is an essential requirement of the scheme and must be established throughout the supply chain before products can appear on the supermarket shelves bearing the Freedom Food trademark.

NSF Certification is the certification body for the RSPCA's Freedom Food farm assurance schemes. NSF Certification offers an integrated package where all farm enterprises can be assessed in one visit.
